Former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly criticized legendary actress Julia Roberts after she lent her voice to a political advertisement supporting the 2024 presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris.
The ad, created by the advocacy group Vote Common Good, targets a specific segment of the electorate — the wives of Trump supporters — and highlights the importance of privacy in voting. In the commercial, Roberts says something along the lines of:
“In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want and no one will ever know.”
The ad shows two women entering a polling station: one votes for Harris while her (assumed) Trump-supporting husband waits outside. Afterward, the couple walks away together, and when the husband asks if she made the right choice, she replies with a confident smile.
Trump was visibly upset by the ad and spoke about it on Fox & Friends, saying he was “disappointed” in Roberts and suggesting she would later look back at the decision and “cringe.” He also questioned the idea of a wife keeping her vote secret from her husband, calling the concept ridiculous.
The commercial sparked strong reactions across the political spectrum — Democrats and progressives applauded the message of voter choice, while many Republicans condemned it as divisive or disrespectful.
